I can only repeat myself. Big congratulations Toronto Raptors, you are the first Canadian NBA champions. This was a hard fought series against Golden State, but you successfully defeated them. Get ready for the crazy celebration back home. This is the first major Canadian championship title since the 1993 Blue Jays. So I'm sure the victory parade in downtown Toronto will be enormous. Now you're a two time champion Kawhi!

I'm sure you were beside yourself, when the game was over. The whole country can celebrate now, the Raptors are in the history books and nobody can take away this title from them. What happens in the offseason with them is an other question, but this doesn't matter right now.

I've read the article, it's pretty cute. This is why hockey players are the best. They are humble, down-to-earth guys, who doesn't want any extra attention. This was a pretty nice gesture from ROR, especially in the actual opponent's city. I'm sure that couple hundred dollar was pocket money for Ryan, but he made the Bruins fan's day with his generous gift.

Thanks CABJ and yes I had to pinch myself to make sure it was real and again this morning turning on the tv to the Canadian news and it is plastered all over the screen so I can let out my breath and take it in. This is huge for the entire country and the parade on Monday will be televised nationally on CBC Newsworld.

Did you know that the first ever NBA game was played in Toronto on November 1st 1946

Kawhi is MVP and deservedly so

There were a few acts of vandalism and one man was shot but considering the size of the city they were well behaved for the most part.

I looked up the Huskies in Wikipedia, their only season wasn't too successful. But their successors are on top of the pro basketball world at the moment. It's good to hear the celebrations are peaceful, except those few incidents you mentioned. I'm sure the parade on Monday will be gigantic, they truly deserve the adoration.

Since this is my thread I think I have some latitude to expand the conversation a little more lol. CFL is my passion away from hockey. I am a minority owner in a team but try not to show bias because I love the league and all 9 teams are integral to its survival. Our league is over 100 years old and some have tried to knock us down but we don't fall. We have an association with the NFL which includes an understanding and it is common for us to groom future NFL stars but most love it up here and want to stay once they see how great Canada is and how they are treated as part of the community.

Not sure if you know anything about the Canadian Football League CABJ but the regular season just got underway and the Montreal Alouettes were in town last might to play the Edmonton Eskimos and the Eskies came from behind to take it 32-25. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 23-17 on Thursday to open the season

The Ottawa Redblacks are in Calgary tonight to take on my Stampeders in their opener, Calgary are defending Grey Cup champions. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are at the BC Lions in the other game tonight.

I'll be totally honest with you, I don't know nothing about the CFL. I've heard a few teams' names before, but that's it. If I remember correctly, former St. Louis Rams star quarterback Kurt Warner was a CFL player before his NFL career. But I happily learn more about the teams and the league, so please don't hold yourself back milady. I'm sure the weather is much better in the summer and autumn months and that's why the regular season starts now. Looks like the coming months will be pretty exciting for you, I'm certain the games are spectacular and tough in the CFL too. Good luck to your Stampeders.

Here are a few of the most famous names but the list is long. Before his death last year my guy was besties with Doug Flutie and they were fun to watch together like 2 school kids lol. My guy sat in with Doug's band and his Brother Darren was another CFL star with a few teams

Kurt wanted to play in the CFL right out of college but there was no interest in him up here at the time ... in his own words "Up there, it's more of small-man or mobile quarterback-type league and I was more a pure dropback quarterback with a strong arm, so I think they shied away from me a lot because I wasn't the prototypical Canadian league quarterback.
"I know my agent did [send films to CFL clubs]and had contact with them. My coach in the Arena League [John Gregory, a former CFL coach with Saskatchewan and Hamilton]was a coach in Canada for 12 seasons, so I know they knew about me. But I never got any tryouts or offers to play."

QB Warren Moon:*Moon started his professional career with the Edmonton Eskimos, playing in the CFL from 1978-83. He helped the Eskimos win five Grey Cups, throwing for 21,228 yards in the CFL.

Moon joined the Houston Oilers in 1984 and played 17 NFL seasons for four teams, totaling more than 70,000 pass yards as a pro (CFL and NFL). He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

QB Joe Theismann:*Theismann was drafted out of Notre Dame by the*Miami Dolphins*in 1971 but decided to head north, playing three seasons for the Toronto Argonauts from 1971-73. He was a CFL All-Star in 1971 and 1973 before joining the*Washington Redskins*in 1974.

Theismann spent 12 seasons with Washington, helping lead the team to a win in Super Bowl XVII and winning the 1983 AP MVP award.

QB Doug Flutie:*The 1984 Heisman Trophy winner, Flutie was selected in the 11th round of the 1985 NFL draft. He played for the*Chicago Bears*and*New England Patriots*from 1986-89 before joining the BC Lions of the CFL.

He spent the next eight seasons playing in Canada, winning the CFL Most Outstanding Player award six times and the Grey Cup three times with my Stampeders. Flutie returned to the NFL in 1998, starting 52 games for the*Buffalo Bills*and*San Diego Chargersover the next seven seasons.

Flutie was named the No. 1 player in CFL history by a TSN poll in 2006.

QB Jeff Garcia:*Garcia signed with the Calgary Stampeders in 1994, beginning his CFL career as Flutie’s backup. He threw for more than 16,000 yards in the CFL and was named the MVP of the Stampeders’ win in the 1998 Grey Cup.

Garcia joined the*San Francisco 49ers*in 1999 and started all 16 games for the team each year from 2000-02. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, throwing for more than 25,000 yards and 161 touchdowns in his NFL career.

DE*Cameron Wake:*Wake was undrafted out of Penn State and signed with the BC Lions in 2007. He had 16 sacks as a rookie and was named the CFL Rookie of the Year. Wake followed that season with 23 sacks in 2008.

In 2009, Wake joined the Dolphins, and in 2010 he had 14 sacks, the third-most in the league. He signed a two-year extension with the Dolphins in May.

CB*Brandon Browner:*Browner signed with the*Denver Broncos*as an undrafted free agent from Oregon State in 2005 but never appeared in a game, instead beginning his professional career with the Stampeders.

Browner played in the CFL from 2007-10, was a three-time All-Star and won the 2008 Grey Cup with Calgary. Browner signed with the*Seattle Seahawks*in 2011, reaching the Pro Bowl in his first full NFL season. He was a starter for the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.

WR Joe Horn:*Horn played the 1995 season with the Memphis Mad Dogs, part of the CFL’s attempt to expand to the United States. He had more than 1,000 receiving yards in his only CFL season before getting taken by the*Kansas City Chiefs*in the fifth round of the 1996 NFL draft.

Horn spent four seasons in Kansas City but has had his most NFL success with the*New Orleans Saints, reaching four Pro Bowls and finishing with four 1,000-yard seasons.

For some other notable NFL stars, the CFL was a minor footnote to their careers.

WR Fred Biletnikoff:*Biletnikoff spent his entire 14-year NFL career with the*Oakland Raiders, averaging more than 15 yards per reception and leading the NFL with 35 touchdown catches from 1969-72. His final NFL season was in 1978, but he spent one season with the Montreal Alouettes in 1980, catching four touchdowns. Biletnikoff was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988.

RB Ricky Williams:*Williams won the 1998 Heisman Trophy and was the fifth pick in the 1999 NFL draft. He led the NFL with a Dolphins single-season record 1,853 rushing yards in 2002 before retiring in 2004.

After returning to the NFL in 2005, Williams was suspended for the 2006 season. He played for the Argonauts in 2006, rushing for 526 yards in his only season in Canada. Williams returned to the NFL in 2007 and played five more seasons for the Dolphins and*Baltimore Ravens.

WR*Chad Johnson:*Johnson was a second-round pick by the*Cincinnati Bengals*out of Oregon State in the 2001 NFL draft, and he had at least 1,000 receiving yards in six of his first seven seasons, including an NFL-best 1,369 yards in 2006.

The six-time Pro Bowl selection had the second-most receiving yards in the league from 2002 through 2007. His last NFL season was with the Patriots in 2011, and he played the 2014 season in the CFL with the Alouettes.

DE Mark Gastineau:*Gastineau was a second-round pick in the 1979 NFL draft and spent his entire 10-year career with the*New York Jets. He was a three-time first-team All-Pro and had 54.5 sacks from 1983-85, 11 more than any other player. His 22.0 sacks in 1984 are tied for the second-most since the stat became official in 1982.

Gastineau tried a comeback with the BC Lions in 1990 but lasted just four games before an injury led to his release.

Wow there are huge names on your list, true legends and lots of Hall of Famers. It's obvious the CFL is a professional, high level league. Your Stampeders are off to a rocky start, they have suffered a heartbreaking loss on opening day. But I'm sure they will bounce back and will deliver better results in the upcoming rounds.

NHL offseason news. I swear our mofo jerk GM is the worst decision maker in the history of the league. Yesterday there was a trade between Chicago and Pittsburgh. We have acquired Olli Maatta for Dominik Kahun and a 2019 fifth round draft pick. We have a bunch of defensemen (although some of them are aging), yet Stan brings in another one, who already had two shoulder surgeries. Plus he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. He's signed for three more years and his annual salary is more than four million dollars. Dominik's entry level contract pays him 925000$. I think he had a very strong rookie year with 37 points and he played all 82 games. This is another ridiculously bad trade, just like the Artemi Panarin and Michal Kempny trades were. It's time to fire this incompetent idiot, before he ruins our team even more. Chicago's salary cap is one of the worst, now this moron made it worse.

The Blues victory parade was a huge success, which isn't surprising. More than 500 thousand people showed up and they really enjoyed the celebration.

Tru datlol, Redblacks quarterback Dominique Davis*singlehandedly killed us with 3 rushing TD's including the winner but this was a Grey Cup rematch from last season and they always play us tough. We have s bunch of new guys and have been known to strat slow out of the gate and then go gangbusters but we will see, I just love the game win or lose. 32-28 Redblacks.

Ya Chicago worries me too with their rational but I will confess I am not up to speed on them at the moment and I could Google them and post something clever but that is not who I am but I will bone up on them for conversation sake hun.

St Louis so deserved that sort of participation and I am so proud of those guys.

I am packing for Calgary today then we fly to Vegas for the NHL awards on the 19th so I may be scarce for the next week plus I am a little choked at one mod here who arbitrarily imposes their will. If I operated like that on Pornhub I would be lynched lol.
